Sumation Explorer Online Documentation
This is one of the most important screens in SumationĂ– Explorer. Here you can perform searches based on a number of criteria, including file names, file attributes and date filtering.
As with the Folders Size tab, to change the Search in location, you can select one of the presented locations, or select a new location by clicking on the browse (folder icon) button.
When filtering results by Date Criteria, you can choose the file date to use for which the results should be returned.
Double clicking on a given result can open the search results displayed.
To export results for analysis or graphing in a spreadsheet, you must check the results you would like to have in the results export.
This is where you initiate Sumation Actions (i.e. Copy, Move, Delete) by checking the results you would like to perform the action on and clicking on the Sumation button. This will open the Sumation Options dialog. In this dialog you can specify the target location for copy or move operations. For move operations, you can select to leave a shortcut or hyperlinked html file to facilitate user location of the moved files. The name of the html file will be the "<orginal_file_name>.htm". If a shortcut is left, it will specify that it is a Sumation Generated Shortcut, but otherwise act exactly as a normal shortcut with the standard naming convention for shortcuts, i.e. "Shortcut to <Original File Name>.lnk".
Should a moved file exist at the target location, the file will be renamed to "Copy (<number>) of <Original_File_Name>". Shortcuts and information files will point to this file by its new name.
Copied and moved files will retain their original file dates, at the time of the operation. This is important since one of the primary reasons Sumation(tm) Explorer was built was to help administrators and user move their old files around on their network. If these dates were not retained, then it would become impossible to age files after a couple of moves or copies.
The Sumation Options dialog also allows users to preserve collapse or create a new directory structure from the files in the operation. This is a very nice to have feature. If you click on the create new radio button, then click the Select button, example structures will be shown from which you can choose. These are customizable upon your return to the Sumation Options dialog.
One the job is submitted, the Sumation Operation will iterate through the file search results to generate a true representation of what will happen to the files once the job is started. You will automatically be taken the Sumation Jobs tab. At this point nothing has been done to the files, and the job can be cancelled on the Sumation Jobs tab. Previous result selections are still available to change the Sumation Action (SUMAction) options for the job.
A note on deletions. The delete operation here is not to a Deletion Area! It is a deletion of the file that is not recoverable, as it will bypass the recycle bin. If you want to 'delete' files to a deletion area, choose to 'Move' the files to the Deletion Area selected in the Target Location box. Please DO NOT get confused with this terminology
